Ayers Kaserne

Do you remember training at Grofonwoehr and Hohenfels? I do! I was there when it was HOT! We went from one training area to the next and the exercise lasted over 45 days.

  1. I definitely remember Graf.. and Hohenfels. What I remember was the cold not the heat. I can remember road marching those 113's all night, in a blizzard, using nods (an/pvs5a) and ended up with a splitting headache due to the snow in the green images in my eyes...good times. You probably remember a guy last name Savage from Colorado. We would get very drunk and sneak on the repelling tower at night. How about Baumholder? Anyone remember that place?

  2. John, thought that I would reply, just stumbled on this site. These cold war sites in Germany and a few drops in Korea are the only ones that I visit. I remember the cold also, especially when the heater is gone busted in the tracks and on back order forever then the old mans goes then yours is on back order again. It is funny to this day every time that I smell pine-sol I think of the old barracks at Ft Benning and the smallest whiff of diesel I think of us at the Rock."Deeds not Words" was one hell of a motto for a company that I really didn't think much about then but would be a fitting motto for the entire Army. Keep getting a little older and more proud that I was a part of that place for a little while and feel that all of us kept the candle burning for the troops that are in battle today. Wish like most of us probable do that we could go back in time to our old friends for a while, have had several dreams over the years that I went back and would tell the guys I was here for three years back in 81 to 84. You can get on the satellite map and see the curve in the road where C2/36TH INF was and the parade field, about the only thing left, I think that the motor pool blacktop is still there. Had ups and downs there but gotta admit miss the place.
